Welcome to  TheBocX!

The Soundtrack for your Everyday Chill!

We’ve been here all the time, listening to you listening to us !

www.TheBocX.com brings you a little of this, and a whole lotta that!

What better way to start off your day than with a few musical updates. Ed & I have been busy behind the scenes making improves, sourcing music and trying to keep our music fresh and creative!

One of the most important updates is we have an updated advertising rate card! Now you have a better opportunity to advertise to the hippest people on the planet for very, very reasonable rates, see more details here: http://www.thebocx.com/advertising-info/

We’ve been adding your favorite hits from the past…some with twists, and the hottest jazzy hits from the present. For instance:

Mark Murphy Stolen Moments (Phil H Edit) - He has been one of jazz’s hidden treasures for too long. Great chops see him live; this is one of his signature songs.

Groove Armada Little by Little /w Ritchie Havens - I had a bad copy of this song for a long time and finally located a Remastered copy of this, Ritchie Havens voice just does so much for the song, with the right amount of beats and acoustic guitar just sets it off.

Aaron Jerome Angel Lady, Time To Rearrange - Two nice songs from a new to me artist. Great diverse jazz chops and grounded in soul and groove.

Malia I Love You Porgy - This song for me is such so ingrained with my love of Nina Simone’s version, I had to really use an open mind to listen, and Malia does a decent interpretation of this classic.

Brothers And Systems 1/2 4 Me, 1/2 4 You This may qualify as a dusty disc from 1992 produced in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. Combining elements of jazz, funk, hip hop, soul and more, with house and downtempo styled beats. Combined with fine melodies and smooth, crisp, intelligent lyrics & vocals, created a pop sensible hybrid sound that was well ahead of its time.

Gregory Porter Real Good Hands - What an outstanding new to me artist with his own style unlike anyone I can easily compare with, except now that I think of it Mark Murphy. Not afraid to try different original material and the emphasis is his voice and the message a rare mixture in today’s music. Check out 1960 What also. He’s touring now see him!

Below are links with just a few of the other artist we have added to our playlist in the last week, with hyperlinks to either their websites/ Wikipedia or label site with more details about them, please check them out also:

Our latest musical whims took us across the years, continents, cultures, galaxies and left us with great sweet dreams this week!

You'll be doing yourself a musical dis-service by not listening to www.TheBocX.com this week.

The following are just a few of DJ Phil D’s latest additions:

Lenny Kravitz - Looking Back On Love- His newest album, with a lot of great tunes, runs the gamut from rock, rap, soul. He has great musical vision.

The Trio - The Teddy Bear’s Picnic – A straight-ahead jazz interpretation of one of the songs that would entertain me when I was still in low single digits.

Kid Creole & The Coconuts - Somebody's Got To Lose – He’s back, his latest release… I wonder if he’s still swinging those Zoot Suits.

Lavern Baker & Jimmy Ricks - You're The Boss dL edit - A classic duo jam from the 40’s and you Disney fans may recognize his voice, catch it in the mornings!

Lynn Fiddmont - All The Way, Lover Man & Do Nothing 'til You Hear From Me/Wayman's Groove I tend to shy away from the chanteuses’ re-interpretations of jazz standards, and I had sent myself a note to obtain one of her songs last year. I was digging through some older emails and I found a reference to her, and I’m so glad I went back to re-visit her tasty, soulful, spirited revisits of some jazz classics!

Sola Rosa - Humanised ft. Bajka & Love Alone ft. Spikey Tee Do I have to say why I like stuff, 2 songs with a cross up of big band, beat, blues with an ol’ school Hispanic twang, Spanish off beat hip-hop harmony! I just don’t know how to classify it, but I like it!

These are some of the other artist we’ve also added :

Lack Of Afro, MR DAY, Eric Legnini And The Afro Jazz Beat, The Rurals, JoJo Effect, Dotmatic, Anthony Valadez, Warren Wolf, Doob, Carolyn Malachi (Check her out mornings EST)! Shuggie Otis, Fat Freddy's Drop, Terence Trent D'Arby, Kraak & Smaak, Curtis Mayfield, Voodoo Bull, Incognito, Samuel Purdey & Stanley Clarke.

October 17, 2011

We’re highlighting two disparate bands this week on www.TheBocX.com, The Spinners & Azymuth!

Please enjoy all the new songs we've added this week, below are just a few of our latest additions:

Jasmine Kara - In The Basement - Part 1 – This is so gut-bucket, garage band funky dance in the driveway jams. (For the record I’ve never ever danced in someone’s driveway).

Herbie Mann - Cissy Houston - Cajun Moon (byDesign moody edit)- A strange retake on a pure jazz/singer edit making a really dark groove beat.

Clarence Wheeler and The Enforcers - We've Only Just Begun – Do you marvel at Hammond B3 classic jazz grooves? Then you should know of Clarence Wheeler and The Enforcers, 70’s Chicago funk groove!

Bobby Hutcherson – Montara This song just wants you to just marvel at how a great vibraphonist does best!

Azymuth - Periscopio (Volcov Re-edit & Tamborim, Cuíca, Ganza, Berim & several others also!) – If you don’t know Azymuth...they’ve been around since the seventies doing electro/bossa/afro/chill a keyboard based Brazilian trio swinging hard for 4 decades!

Jack McDuff – Oblighetto- The original album this song was part of called “Moon Rappin” (1969) introduced me to how an organ could be used for deep chill/groove and musical space.

The Spinners - Sadie, Ghetto Child & Toni my Love All their great songs seem to encourage you to overcome your bad circumstances and make the most of your life! How can you not like these songs for what they say and great harmonies led by Philippe Wynn!

Kem, Sweet Coffee, The Tavares, Pieces of a Dream, Bobbi Humphrey (remix), DJ Boost, Barbara Lewis (Yes that Barbara Lewis you old heads), Esther Phillips, The Stranglers, Better Daze, Al Jarreau (remix), Stevie Wonder (remix)!

Thanks again for your continued support,

Please enjoy and share!

September 13, 2011

Here are some of our latest Grooves!

Captain Planet - Get You Some – Rhythm Island flavor guitar leading swaying female harmonies make men appreciate women even more!

Colm K - Basics_Organic_Remix Mastered 2 – Sort of a cross between Amy Winehouse & Erykah Badhu in phrasing, sound and style with their own twist.

Gilles Peterson's Havana Cultural - La Revolucion del Cuerpo (Jazzy Gentle modal rejazz) – What a masterful taste of African flavored Caribbean beat late night grooves!

Grover Washington Jr. I can’t help it & Snake Eyes (cc's edit) – My newest DJ find out of Budapest DJ Carlos Contreras, has taken some interesting beats and threw them at the CTI catalogue. I hope to coax some more creativity out of him, stay tuned!

Jazzanova - I Can See (Jazzy Gentle remix) – Go ahead own more than one version of the same song, some songs you can’t see improved and they maybe personal taste. But some covers and revisits take the essence to new levels that you can appreciate!

Which brings us to the next comment

Jazzanova - I Can See (Cymon Tru Remix) – Found this version shortly after the previous one, and it hit me in an entire different way, way chilled!

Galactic - Heart Of Steel (Featuring Cyril Neville) – I think Galactic has taken the high energy horn band mantle and shown New Orleans funk to the world, and they do it at a high level live!

Orlandivo - Ondo Onda A Meu Amor – A Brazilian lounge vocal chill-out, to the 10th degree.

Soulpersona feat. Darien, Kurt Elling, Jazzanova w/Clara Hill, Carsten Jung, Dwele, Soul Surfer, Soraya, Sound Surgeons, Triorganico, Jaco Pastorius, Noel aka Tha Sco, Amy Winehouse, Love Unlimited (Re-Edited), Paul Maxwell & Eugene K!
